Overview & Location

Overview of Proposal

Kilmac Energy's proposal is to install three wind turbines with a hub height of 64m and a rotor diameter of 71m, giving a height to blade tip of 99.5m. Each turbine has a rated capacity of 2.3MW; with the overall installed capacity of up to 6.9MW for the project, which could potentially generate enough electricity to power 3,800 homes. Our plans also include the construction of a substation to house the necessary on-site electrical metering and protection equipment.

A grid connection agreement, to accommodate the generation output of the proposed wind farm, has been made between Scottish & Southern Energy (SSE) and Kilmac Energy. Our proposed connection will be via a 33kV underground cable to the Lunanhead Grid substation, near Forfar. This means no new overhead lines will be required, as the turbines would be connected to the substation building via underground cables.

Site Location

The site of our proposed wind cluster is located on the Hill of Finavon on the Finavon Estate. It is situated south of the A90 and north of the B9134, approximately 6km north-east of Forfar and 13km south-west of Brechin, Angus as shown in the figure below. The highest point of Hill of Finavon is at an altitude of approximately 220m above sea level and is in an area that does not carry any national designations and the current land use is improved grazing.
